the larva of Austrolimnophila ochracea, a Limoniidae. The pigmentpatches on the anal lobes are characteristic. Your photo's are very usefull for in the larva gallery. Edited by atylotus on 26-02-2011 19:49 |

a funny thing happened just recently. About 2-3 weeks ago a colleague from a water authority board send me photo's of the larva of the same species ! Then it took me about half an hour to get the ID. So when I saw your photo's I recognized them immediately By the way, not many species of Limoniidae larva can be identified to species level, but this one is typical. Some diagnostic features, are easy to see on your photo's: The headcapsule is almost fully developed, it has ventral pseudopods and the pigmentation (and number) of (the) anal lobes.
