Hi,

Please could anyone help with this fly,

It probably isnt anything like a Tachinidae,I just guessed, after looking through the gallery they seemed the closest.

from memory it was maybe 1.2cm.Found in west sussex downland in a meadow, wooded, stream area.

Many thanks.

I'd say Sarcophagidae - based on: the plumose arista, red eyes and chequerboard grey dusting on the abdomen Smile

thanks,

I think we have quite a few of these about at the moment, are they quite common ?
Is this the same family that bites chunks out of me or was that something else, tabanids maybe?

I think i had a mixup with some of the pics from this treetrunk,I thought this was the smaller fly....I've changed the size by a few mm.
I'll post the small one another time.

the abdomen is a little short for most Sarcophagidae.
My guess would be Musca (Muscidae).
