Hi,

I met this robberfly in a rainforest area close to the sea in the surroundings of Paraty-Brazil on the 5th February 2010
Not 100% sure it is the same fly, but the pictures were taken after each other, it might have moved from the plant stem to the grass blade..
Thank you,
MyriamSmile

Nice robber fly Miriam! Appears to be a Taurhynchus sp. (close relative of the Nearctic genus Proctacanthus).

Cheers, Eric

I believe will not necessary to create a new thread just to ask for ID of an Asilidae that I photographed in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, but if here is not the right place for this, please, delete this post.

Here is the photo:

Coordinates of the place where I took this photo:
Latitude: -22.538403081866, Longitude: -43.22846531868

Thanks for help!

Antonio, I believe these are an Amblyonychus sp. (assuming the claws are blunt, which they appear to be in this photo). This American, mainly neotropical, genus is very similar to the huge, world-wide genus Promachus (which all have sharp claws).

Probably this submission does belong in a separate thread; nice photo!

Cheers, Eric

Eric,
I created a new thread.
Now, to keep clean this thread, you can delete my posts here.
Thank you for your help.
