Well, not surprisingly when one thinks there are a lot of Baccha species in South America.
But in this case it looks more like a male Pseudodoros sp.
Another possibility would be Ocyptamus, but it looks very much like a male Pseudodoros clavatus. Whether this species has look-a-likes in southern america I don't know for sure. So, to be on the safe side I think a male Pseudodoros sp.
Greetings

To make things clear, yes I am Myiam from Gent! Not Myriam from Brazil, though I would like to exchange with her in the winter months! SmileGrin

Thanks Janet for coming to my defence, besides I'm an endangered specie and on top not a Diptera, though I would love a pair of wings! Grin

@ bonitin: well, you could exchange information about Syrphidae with her... Did you make this photo yourself? Is it so strange for me to think you are Brazilian? Smile

@ Roger: must be a lonely concert Grin

Yes, Andre, any picture I have posted is taken by me, and no I am not Brazilian but Belgian (Flemish) though I have some very close friends in Brazil that gave me my nickname 'bonitin'.
I have visited Brazil three times but only the last time had a decent camera.
I have always been fascinated with anything to do with nature so also Diptera..Smile
Anyway if you want to know more here is the website I have together with my Brazilian-American friend, we are both artists..
