Taken Aug 09 in South East England, feeding on flowering curly leaf parsely "Petroselinum crispum". I don't have any more revealing photos, just variations on this.

Thanks Tony, that certainly looks to be a probable option, I'd reached Symphyta from ID keys but there are quite a number to choose from, the books I have list only a few, none of which resemble this one, but when I looked up Athalia on-line, there are many similarities
