Hello everyone Smile
I'm new in this forum because I ressentelly interest myself in the tipulidae family by founding an old key of this family for France (i hope this new pation will stay a long time so i'll be annoying you for a while Smile).
It's a key in french from Pierre edited (I think) around 1921.

http://p1.pikeo.c...jpg?seed=0

With this key i found for this female Tipula cava or lunata. The différences is: clear blotches for T cava and unclear blotches for T lunata but i've got no expérience and i can't tell Sad so i'd need a little help

another question: 3 species of Nephrotoma have been described after the parution of this key (N saccai 1951, N submaculata 1928 and N sullingtonensis 1938 wouldn't you know what their characteristics are?

sorry for my english (i'm french, it's makes a good excuse lol)

The Tipulid expert of this forum is Chen Young (Pittsburgh, USA). He is excellent but is working mainly with American species. Unfortunately, he visits the forum quite seldom, his last visit was on 7 May.
Tipulids are difficult, important characters are e.g. the male genitalia (your photo shows a female). We dare to give guesses of names only for very common and typical species. Often it ends with a subgenus only. So I am afraid you will not find much help as to detailed questions - sorry! You may send Chen Young a private message; in this case, however, try to polish up your English a bit Smile.
Nevertheless enjoy the forum, there are much more VERY nice flies than but Tipulids!
Regards, Sundew

There are several European Tipulidae experts as well. Many of them probably have their e-mail adresses available from http://www.mapress.com/zoosymposia/content/2009/v3/index.htm

I can no longer send private messages (and maybe not receive?), even though my inbox and outbox are not yet full. I write, click "send" and they disappear and never show up in the outbox.
