A rather big fly on Pinus pinaster. Is it possible to ID beyond family level? Andre Burgers attached the following image: [53.52Kb] Edited by Andre Burgers on 14-11-2010 21:55 |

Also have a look at Neomochtherus melanopus. It is very difficult to determine species from a single picture. Keys are hardly applicable this way. Best bet is a local expert or real one

Is there a cientific name for "Machinus group"? Thanks anyway, André |

Andre Burgers wrote: [quote]Leptogaster wrote: Is there a cientific name for "Machinus group"? Thanks anyway, André I think the group consists of: Machimus + Tolmerus and Neoepitriptus. Maybe there are more genusses (what happened to Epitriptus for instance) let an expert react too. These genusses are very similar in appearance and form a group because of it. Probably it will not end here. Research is going on. Thanks for your list of genera to be taken into acount. André |

André, to make things worse ,please note that i am now more convinced that it is a Neomochtherus cf melanopus. Neomochtherus is not part of the Machimus group!
