From the larvae forum:

Hi guys,

As you can read in the links, these white spots have been driving several entomologists crazy for the past week. What are they?

Thanks!

Warren

Hello,

Syrphid larva is ok. I never saw such a big annular peak on the body. On the other hand, following the links you gave us, I found this one :
http://www.whatst...er-aphids/
where one can see two larvae with a similar bump feeding on Aphis neri.

Just a wild wondering guess: A larva close to moult and getting rid of some waste or otherwise preparing for moulting?

I agree with paul. The larva is in the subfamily Syrphinae, and one of the aphid eating genera indeed..
