I am a bit confused of this about 10 mm long male. I can´t see hairy eyes but perhaps to unsharp picture. Signs on thoraic dorsum seems a bit odd. But it think it is pyrastri anyway? Photo from Norrtjärnen, Ångermanland, Sweden 62.56N 17.47 E 19 july 2009 Thanks for your help in advance Regards Kurt Holmqvist kurt attached the following image: [83.98Kb] |

Hey Kurt. Looks more like a male Dasysyrphus, but I'm not sure which one. You didn't collect it? Greetings Greetings, Gerard Pennards |

Yes, it's a bit difficult because by the angle we're looking at it it seems to have stripes on the thorax. My best idea would be a male Dasysyrphus pinastri, looking at the spots on the abdomen. Greetings Greetings, Gerard Pennards |

Looking at Bartsch's Swedish Syrphinae volume, this might be D pauxillus, but almost certainly not possible to be certain from a photo.
