Hello,

it might be not possible but can this hoverfly be identified from this picture?

Loc. & date: 19.08.09 Germany, moistly meadow, about 300 msm
Size ABOUT 8-12 mm.

This may well be a male Cheilosia latifrons/griseiventris.

Wow, that was extremely fast - thanks a lot!

One more question:
Is Cheilosia latifrons an Ch. griseiventris the same species with a different name?
I could not find further information about it.

Cheers

I am sorry... No, latifrons is a species-complex. But this will be solved in near future. For some years already griseiventris is assumed to be a separate species, being split off of latifrons. But they will not easily be ID'd based on a picture. That's why I mentioned them both Smile

Hi Andre,

sorry, I'm late with my reply - and thanks for your explanation.
So it will be the best to ID it just as a Cheilosia sp.?
What do you recommend?

Cheers

It means that you are not confident of identification. It comes from latin, but I forgot the meaning myself. I will have to look that up...
