Hello,

Such a long time since my last contribution on this forum... arthropa.free.fr/site/images/sm-confus.gif

Here I am again : here's some Tipulidae I found in Olmeto (Corsica, France) on 21th september 2004. Body length was 13 mm approx.

arthropa.free.fr/photos/ATH04-09-21-083.jpg
(only this picture, closer details on request)

Looks like some Nephrotoma sp. female to me.

But I don't know what criterias are needed to have any idea of the species, and... ...even don't know whether these criterias are affordable on a picture without a binocular... arthropa.free.fr/site/images/sm-oups.gif
Can anyone detail me ?...

Thanks !

I think it is Nephrotoma quadrifaria or a very closely related species. I have looked on the web for images and most images seem to agree (it appears as if not all images under that name on the net are from the same species). One you can check is http://www.gwydir...ulidae.htm (scroll down a little). I think the one on http://www.biopix...toid=11192 is in fact another species as the head is not reddish and the thorax is much darker.

I can no longer send private messages (and maybe not receive?), even though my inbox and outbox are not yet full. I write, click "send" and they disappear and never show up in the outbox.
