Hello!

I had just come to the conclusion that this Tachinid, found on June-22 in a former limestone quarry in Ostwestfalen/Germany, could be Lecanipa bicincta, when I saw that it has been featured with new pictures in the gallery recently :-). But is it really the same species? Thanks in advance!

Hi Jurgen, I have never seen Lecanipa (it isn't a UK species) but this fly fails on a few areas. Anyway, it seems to be a Dexiine - possibly genus Dexia or Dinera but I can't make out enough detail on the photos to tell you for sure.

PS: I should add that it looks Dexiine because it has those long, thin legs without large bristles. Smile But it isn't a Thelaira because it is too grey-dusted and the eyes are too small.

Hello, Chris!

Thanks for your reply!

PS: I should add that it looks Dexiine because it has those long, thin legs without large bristles. Smile But it isn't a Thelaira because it is too grey-dusted and the eyes are too small.

And I think it was too large for Thelaira. I forgot to mention that this was a rather large fly (about 15 mm).
Best regards,
Jürgen
