every years i find those things on my windows at the beginning on may. in french we call that rests "exuvie" but i don't know the word in english ... boby is 4 mm long and the 3 forks 4 mm too. Ephemeroptera, an exuvium, indeed. Note that these mayflies - and this is only true for this insect order - have a molt after leaving water and soonly thereafter another. After the first they become subimagos, after the second thy are called imagos. Then they die in a short time. I think there's very little chance to ID without seeing an imago or subimago itself. |
