I don't know what it is but I've lightened up the image with a bit of Photoshop to assist anyone in the know. Hope you don't mind.

Hmm..doesn't add much, suggest you use Manual Flash, and/or adjust exposure settings on camera.

Hello Roger,

It was a blue metallic fly smaller than the usual calliphora. The yellow leaf does not help for sure, too much contrast.
