I'm not sure whether this is a male S. ribesii or a S. vitripennis. I don't think it's a S. torvus becaus eyes don't appear to be hairy and frons is yellow.
I could only find a male S. torvus in the gallery.
Can someone enlighten me, please?

Size ~11 mm
Forest edge 23 July 2008 (Helsingborg, Sweden)
Thanks!

Hi Lars.
This one I leave to the Experts.
I had one determined by Gerard which I sent off to The Hoverfly Recording Scheme here in the UK which is in the Gallery there, but got a message from them to inform me that it couldn't be included in the Records without checking its genitalia....don't know how the other Records were verified, unless there are a lot of microscopes in circulation. So even a determination by the great people on this site means nothing to some folk.
I have it in a file under S.vitripennis..Det. Gerard Pennards...That's good enough for me Smile.
I enclose that photo, and think this one is probably the same, but remember opening line.
