This spider belongs to the Ctenizidae family. It is known as trap-door spider as well. It has primitive features but not so ancient as Liphistiidae with segmented opisthosoma! This spider has 4 lung plates under the abdomen, and strong spinnerets. They can dig deep in the ground as I could testify. Ummidia aedificatoria is a very calm spider, not aggressive, but it has strong legs. It is incredible to feel its strenght! This spider only can be found in southern parts of Europe. And it is common in Algarve region.

I would like to know the reason of the white spots in abdomen... maybe an expert on mygalomorphs can say what they are and what is its function.
