I think Gerard is too quick on this one. This is not Merodon, but an Eristalinae. Merodon don't have black spots on the wings, and the venation is different. Guess this is Mallota, perhaps megilliformis.

Nope, not Criorhina floccosa, they have hairs on the abdomen that lay flat instead of standing up like the hairs on the abdomen of this animal.
Andre is quite right, it's a female Mallota megilliformis, nice to see a picture of this rare species!
I should stop doing the quickies! Shock
