ID request -- small grey fly

This fly is 2mm in size. Was caught on a Euphorbia in Texas coastal prairie. It has a stout piercing mouthpart, and the hairs on the thorax are in discernable rows. I've no idea even what family this specimen belongs to. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks |

Hi Maria, It is not easy to be certain with these small flies, especially when you get only a vague indication of what the wing venation is really like. If you have got an entomological library at hand, I would suggest to look into Tethinidae. This family is often found along coasts, has several very small, greyish species.
