This fly is 2mm in size.
Was caught on a Euphorbia in Texas coastal prairie.
It has a stout piercing mouthpart, and the hairs on the thorax are in discernable rows.
I've no idea even what family this specimen belongs to.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.
Thanks

Hi Maria,

It is not easy to be certain with these small flies, especially when you get only a vague indication of what the wing venation is really like. If you have got an entomological library at hand, I would suggest to look into Tethinidae. This family is often found along coasts, has several very small, greyish species.

I can no longer send private messages (and maybe not receive?), even though my inbox and outbox are not yet full. I write, click "send" and they disappear and never show up in the outbox.
