With only 4 known species in Europe you would think there would be a key somewhere. Dryomyza decrepita Dryomyza flaveola - known from Greece Dryomyza senilis Known only from Finland & Sweden Neuroctena anilis Falk 2005 describes Dryomyza decrepita. Can anybody tell me which species are in Stackleberg 1989, Keys to the European Part of the USSR Vol 5. pp 280-281 ??? Thanks Gordon  |

Well I have checked 11 specimens from 5 sites/dates and I am not as happy as I should be. I would like to be sure what ta and tp are to start with. Then all my specimens are variable in colour from reddish yellow, or perhaps orange, to clear yellow, the MSN stripes are clearly seen on the darker specimens and absent in the two lightest specimens, but all are the same in having the costal cell obviously darker than the rest of the wing, and there is a hint of a fade-in-to a darker costal edge. I have checked another 25 or so specimens now (I have less Sciomyzids than I thought I did) and they are all the same. I think I will order the Falk paper from the NHM and hope there is a genitalia drawing in it. |

Paul, If you have the whole of the Stackleberg 1989 paper can you tell me how he defines ta and tp. In the key it says ta and tp with smoky brown border and then without said border but I do not know what he means by ta and tp. Thanks Gordon |

Are you or some others still interested in the terminology of Bei-Bienko/Stackelberg? I may help in some of the less time-consuming cases, since I have the volumes here at home. Ta and tp mean anterior and posterior crossveins. |

Dear KWQ, Thanks but as all my specimens look clean I am calling them D. flaveola. The only thing that might help would be genitalia for both decrepita and flaveola, but I do not see it as necessary. Dear All, D. flaveola is recorded from Greece before according to Fauna Europaea, but from where. If anybody has Soos 1984 in Soos, A. and Papp, L. 1984 Catalogue of Palaearctic Diptera 9. pp 152 to 154, I would be grateful if they could check for me, answer here or email me a photocopy of the relevent bit. Gee Thanks Phil,  So where did FE get the record from I wonder, I wish I could make them tell me but as far as I know it is impossible, but I will make another visit.

Well it seems the Taxanomic speacialist for Dryomyzidae is one Mr Miguel Carles-Tolrá, but they supply no contact info, do any of you spanish dipterists know how I can contact this man?? Please and Thankyou. |
