I found this caterpillar crawling on a fern in my garden on 20/09/08. It looks like a Dun-bar to me, but if this is the case then I find it very puzzling.

The foodplants include oak, elm, birch, sallow, hawthorn, blackthorn and hazel. I have none of these in my garden or nearby.
Also, it occurrs as a larva from the middle of April to the first half of June.

Can anyone confirm the species identification?
