Hi David and rest of the forum. Today I've photographed this pretty bombylid, common in "El Burgo de Ebro", Zaragoza Ebro valley, NE Spain, a location near my city, dominated by gypsiferous steppe-lands with above all Rosmarinus officinalis, also Salsola vermiculata, Salsola kali, Krascheninikovia ceratoides, Helianthemum nummularium, Gypsophila struthium ssp. hispanica and Artemisia herba-alba. The landscape is not plain and the day have been very windy. There are also some wheat fields and roads in the zone. The fly sizes about 10 mm. long (without proboscis). I't curious for the long hairs of the abdomen, brown, white near the tip and black just at the tip. Also for reddish basis of th wings and very haury face with not much long proboscis. The exemplar have been collected if the images are not enough for identify.    What can be? Maybe an Anastoechus? Thanks, Regards |

It certainly looks a lot like Valter's Anastoechus nitidulus from yesterday http://www.dipter...d_id=16140, but I expect you have already noticed that, and we need David to confirm anyway

Thanks a lot Susan. I don't saw Anastoechus of V. Jacinto, but it looks completely identical. So, I'll put this name unless D. Gibbs says another thing. |
