From my garden by shingle and saltmarsh yesterday. This has got to be Mintho rufiventris hasn't it?

Wow - looks like it (2 dark thoracic vittae, red abdomenal side patches, laterally compressed abdomen etc.) - that's a nice record in the UK - not a common fly at all! Grin

Thanks for the confirmation Chris. It certainly is a nice looking beast. I contacted the records centre at Sussex wildlife trust and there don't appear to be any recent records for the county. Top fly!

Absolutely! Grin They are found infrequently and we get very few records in the UK but that might change as our climate warms. Other groups, like the phasiines have been doing better recently Smile Will you send us that record later, in an end of year batch? Smile

Can do Chris. Remind me on and I'll send you all the tachinid records we have (only about 70 at the mo) and any extra records from this years collecting. If you want I'll also have a word with the Sussex Biological records centre and see if they mind passing on their records to you.
