I found this larva on Christmas day in litter on clay soil near utrecht, NL. (Actually, it was attached to a car license plate that was half buried in the soil.) It looks like a syrphid, i think. Does anyone recognise it? It is 9 mm long. Thanks in advance, Louis  |

It very much resembles Dasysyrphus tricinctus in Rotheray's key to the larvae, but it may well be another species of that genus. And as to multiple images in a message: If you have some space on a web server you can put the images there and then embed links to the images in your message. Attaching an image to the message so that it is uploaded to the Diptera.info server allows only one image per message (security to prevent the bad folks from easily clogging someone else's webspace). I usually transfer attached images to another server after some time and use the embedded link. Thanks, you must be right. In the meantime I found a copy of Rotheray's guide, and the key points unambiguously to Dasysyrphus. The species D. albostriatus is quite common here, so that would be my guess. I'll try to rear it. Louis |
