I am identifying last years catch and I had some problems with following Syrphus-like hoverfly (from Leuven, Belgium). Based on the all black frons (apart from lunula) and the rather distinctive head profile, I'm thinking it might be Syrphus nitidifrons.

I'm however not familiar with this species, and this ex has some small dust-spots on the frons and appears to have less black on the lower part of the face than S nitidifrons should have.

What do you all think?
Joris

Hoi Joris.
Yes, this is a female of Syrphus nitidifrons.
I know the species very well, because I caught them regularly.
Characteristic is indeed the head, with the black frons and the bright yellow face with black mouth rim, and the profile of course.

Greetings,

I can no longer send private messages (and maybe not receive?), even though my inbox and outbox are not yet full. I write, click "send" and they disappear and never show up in the outbox.
