At first I thought this to be a Syrphid, nut now I see it on photo I doubt that. I think I see a calypter, and the wing venation - as far as visible - seems not Syrphid-like. What family could this belong to? Turkey, 30 May, ca 1000 m high, mid south. Wooded mountains. Looks like Merodon, possibly clavipes or aberrans, but I'm not familiar with these species

Cor - try changing the title to "Which Merodon?" to attract the syrphid experts. They should be able to help decide which species.

Unfortunately this is not such an easy task!  In Turkey there are 50 or so species of merodon, of which a lot are poorly known. I know my Syrphs, but for this one I'd say female Merodon sp.
