 Black, shiny tachinid

This tachinid was seen today in southern England - I haven't examined the specimen yet but I am working on the basis it might be something like Macquartia praefica ... all suggestions welcome

I can understand that, however, the eyes are bare or shortly haired at best. So I would suppose Dufouria. Theo |

Ahh, good suggestion ... here M.praefica is usually slightly larger and with a more blue tinge too, so Dufouria sounds better. I think I have this as a specimen so I will tell you later I was pleased enough to get the photo  |

The pics are razorsharp, so excellent indeed. Dufouria's are very similar, so I'm not gonna speculated on the ID on species level from the pics, I'll wait on the specimen. D. chalybeata is by far the most common species. Theo |
