Dare I say this was nectaring at Paliuris spina-christi on the 24 May 2008 here at Lake Kerkini in northern Greece. Unfortunately I only go the one photo and that is not very good.

I can't see whether mid tibia has an ad, but broad abdomen (as broad as long) and extent of orange on it suggest Graphomya maculata, a male.

Thanks Stephane, if I find another I will try and put it in a pot, but usually it is the camera or the net, not both.
