Hairy syrphid?

I found this yesterday in damp open woodland. It is very hairy and has long smoky wings, but I don't think there are any abdominal markings.

It's a Cheilosia, might be carbonaria... Well, hairy... not that much I'd say..

Well, why not the most likely candidate?
My idea would be a male Cheilosia variabilis, or is that a stupid idea? Grin It seems to be big enough to be that species.
