I know little but I have heard rumors that the Asilidae are difficult and rely on genitalia, but I live in hope of a genus at least.

Hi,

this is a female Antipalus. If you would send me the original picture with higher resolution, I maybe can you tell more about the exact species.

Greetings, Danny Wolff

Thanks Danny,
As you must know by now I have sent you the best photo I have, if you can determine the species, please post it here in case others are interested.

As there are no Antipalus in the Asilidae gallery I am putting this forward again to see if anybody new can say the species, I can supply a higher resolution image. It is probably too late to find any this year, but I will try.Smile

I paste in here an email related to this picture for those who are interested. I will hopefully add the photo to the gallery now it is determined.

Dear Gordon,

This specimen is 100% a female Antipalus reginae Moucha & Hradsky, 1966. It is the only female Antipalus with black bristles on the tibiae and practically red femora (only a little bit darker on the upper side). This species is described from Spercheios Valley in Greece and Petrich in Bulgaria and is only known from Greece , Yugoslavia and Bulgaria .

Best wishes

Guy

I can no longer send private messages (and maybe not receive?), even though my inbox and outbox are not yet full. I write, click "send" and they disappear and never show up in the outbox.
