Hello Forum,

this fly was on a leaf of Urtica dioica. Further data: May, 2nd 2008; Hagen (NRW, Germany); 175 m above NN; artificial alder marshland

Which syrphid is it? Thank you in advance, Josef

for me that is a Meliscaeva cinctella male (but I'm not an expert).

Melangyna cincta - note the sharp triangular marks on tergite 1

It is the vein in the overlying wing that seemingly cuts the triangle sharp, I think.

Dipdip is right, this is a male Meliscaeva cinctella, it has very black hind legs were as Melnagyna cincta has more yellow hind legs!
Google a bit and you#ll see!
