Back from hibernation! Spring had a slow start in Holland, and so had I. But today I spotted my first Tachinid near where I work. Rather smallish, say 7 mm. A bit like Exorista, but what about the flight time? In bushes bordering grassland with atificial pond, well sheltered against wind. Quite a few around.

Pity...Is genus sure but species not? Or genus in doubt too?

On second thoughts, the last one is relatively surely Phryxe nemea.
The others ones are most likely Phryxe, possibly Ph. nemea.

So the copulants are certain? What feature is deciding for these flies?

Well, to get it to Phryxe, we must see the erect apical scutellars.
Look at the female...

I can no longer send private messages (and maybe not receive?), even though my inbox and outbox are not yet full. I write, click "send" and they disappear and never show up in the outbox.
