 Platypezidae or Faniidae ?

What is the main distinction between Faniidae and Platypezidae larvae? Position of the spiracles? And how about the processes on the ventral side? 11 abdominal segments is a rule for Fanniidae. I don't know any exceptions to this rule. Both Platypezidae and Fanniidae as far as I know... have lateral processes. Both have flatten dorsoventral body. To me this seems to be a Fannia sp. The fourth and fifth images show us the cephalo-pharyngeal skeleton. (in last we can see but in frontal view but not so good at the others.) |
