Hello, Today I found this tachinid fly; I suspect it is a male, pale giant horse-fly. Could someone please confirm or correct this? Best regards, Volkmar Volkmar attached the following image: ![]() [87.26Kb] |

Are there horizontal stripes on its eyes? Then it is Tabanus bromius. T. bovinus is about double that size and nearly extinct in Germany. What can be seen often here, is Tabanus sudeticus. Even bigger than bovinus - but also without stripes on the eyes. Hello Jürgen, I meant *sudeticus*, of course, but it has horizontal stripes on its eyes, so it’s *bromius*. Since it’s been here for a few days, I might be able to take another look tomorrow. Thanks for your help in the meantime. Best regards, Volmar Volkmar attached the following image: ![]() [159.3Kb] Edited by Volkmar on 04-07-2026 21:40 |

Sell, all things are relative (Einstein, 1905). Eye band clearly indicated bromius. Bovinus is nearly twice as big Theo |
