Hi everyone! Just showing this beauty. According to the catalogue of Diptera in Bavaria, T. gigas should be the only Therioplectes species around. So no serious doubt about the ID. 26. June 2026, Germany, Upper Bavaria, on top of a mountain of the Chiemgau Alps, almost 1700 m a.s.l., caught in the act of hovering. Indeed ! In case of any doubt, check my "World Review" in Studia Dipterologica from decades ago. Very nice it is still around in Bavaria, since the species is getting more and more rare rapidly. Theo |
