 Question regarding the Human Botfly

In texts about Dermatobia hominis, the Human Botfly, I read that the freshly hatched larvae crawl into the skin by means of the hole that the carrying mosquito or fly made for sucking blood. Is this really so? Has it ever been observed? It seems more logical to me that the larvae would use sweat glands or hair follicles as points of entry, or maybe even gnaw openings themselves. What are the thoughts of the experts on this? Photo for attention: a larva that I squeezed out of my skin in Suriname.
