Hello! If this is not Kirbya moerens (as Theo Zeegers recently indicated, that is a more southern species), what could it be? It was rather numerously sunbathing on leaves at the forest yesterday (northwest Germany). Size about 6-7 mm. I think, it's the same species as this fly two years ago: http://www.dipter...ad_id=1431. In an earlier thread Theo mentioned that Kirbya moerens is a more southern species, occuring up to Switzerland, possibly the south of Germany. But these photos I took yesterday in Ostwestfalen, which is 800 km more north, in northwest Germany...

Kirbya moerens was reported north to the line Paris - Aachen. As given the recent global warming, there is no problem here. In any case, this is Kirbya moerens. Theo |
