Subcosta's apical half is straight - female Fannia, I think, but I cannot find the combination of black femora and yellowish abdomen in the key.

I've found my wrong turn in the key - black legs do not exclude yellow abdomen!
But I don't think it's F. canicularis which should have 3 dark stripes on the scutum and the abdomen only yellow at base. But your fly seems to be a case for the expert:
"Parafacials with 3-4? strong setae and numerous setulae" lead directly to Fannia latifrontalis in the key. This seems to be very rare and is not listed in Faunaitalia...

Still inclined towards F. canicularis... What do you think?

PS: Correct reference at p. 28 is: "figure 9g (p. 69)".

That is the key I'm using, too. And with your frontal view I'm nearly convinced of F. canicularis. The lateral stripes on the scutum maybe faded in this specimen. But I am not able to decide whether the yellow abdomen is ok for the species.

F. clara's abdomen is yellow, but I cannot find a complete dorsal image including the apical part. But it looks promising!

At least it's very close to F. clara, I think - but I have by far not enough experience with Fannia to make a reliable suggestion - sorry.
Greetings, Eric
