Hi everyone! Is this a male Coenomyia ferruginea? With this lot of yellow on the abdomen? The rest seems to fit very well. About 15 - 18 mm 30.5.2025, Austria, Carinthia, at a forest edge near Oberschütt, about 540 m a.s.l., coordinates 46.57418,13.76306 Rupert Huber attached the following image: ![]() [258.67Kb] Edited by Rupert Huber on 03-06-2025 07:42 Best greetings Rupert |

Hi Rupert, yes it is surprisingly orange for a male Coenomyia ferruginea! I compared it with "The Book" Zeegers, Schulten (2022): Families of Flies with Three Pulvilli: all other characters fit very well and there's no other species in Europe. Maybe it's a gynaecomorphous specimen and hopefully we'll receive a comment from an expert. Greetings, Eric Kloeckner |

Hi Eric, thanks for the answer! I was in "The Book", too, and then checked the pictures google showed. Nothing coloured like this.
