It is a Tachinini with well-developed palps, no strong parafacial bristles, and first flagellomere larger than pedicel. Is the bright yellow of the head real? Compare Archytas aterrimus, which does not have so much yellow and is usually smaller than 15 mm. There are also undescribed species related to A. aterrimus. The arms of the 5th sternite do not diverge as much as they do in the illustration. It looks more like the related Archytas instabilis, which is a much smaller species. There are one or two undescribed species near A. aterrimus and you may have one of them. |
