Hello,

I photographed this fly in Sant'Anna di Vinadio (CN), Italy, 2250m a.s.l. on August 19th 2024. I think it is an Atylotus, but is it possible to identify its species based on these photos?

Thank you in advance,
Emanuele

I think it's a female Atylotus loewianus.

Females are very tricky. On the second pic, it is "clearly" fulvus, the third suggests loewianus....

The calli on the 2nd pic pretend to be smaller than they are - due to the angle, I think.

Yes, I know. Don't rely on calli (in Atylotus), it is more a trend than a feature.
