Hello, I photographed this fly near Lago Mediano dell'Ischiator (CN), Italy, 2000m a.s.l. on August 17th 2024. I think it is a Tachinidae, but is it possible to identify its genus or species based on these photos? It looks like a Rhinophorid (woodlouse-fly), formerly a family of its own, now a subfamily of Calliphoridae. Compare Stevenia atramentaria (https://www.flick...710395155/), it has such a long petiole. Let's, however, wait for the Tachinid experts. Maybe the calypters are a bit big for a Rhinophorid? Thank you. Looking again, I'm not sure either if this is a Tachinidae or a Rhinophoridae. I tend to mix up the members of these two families. |

Definitely a Tachinidae, check the shape of calypter. It seems to be a Minthodes. You have only M. picta, which is a high mountain species, so that figures ! Theo |
