I have this specimen that I key to Parasyrphus nigritarsis
Can anyone confirm or point me in a different direction
Location: Faroe Islands (NE Atlantic)

I have never seen nigritarsis myself, but everything seems to accord with that species.

Hi Karsten
That's correct I forgot about it.

However I did study this fly again and the anterior anepisternum is bare which will not add up with P nigritarsis which have pilose anterior anepisternum. Now I think it's (just) a Syrphus torvus. Would you agree with this?

Hi,

This last picture shows the long hairs on the dorsal surface of the squama that characterises Syrphus species. It is the most clear on the one right. Together with the hairy eyes this looks like S. torvus indeed.
