I have not found any (dichotomous) keys for the Platypalpus genus (Hybotidae). Does anyone have some info to identify these little flies?
Some info would at least help to try and crop to right characteristics, before losing the original pictures.

I was eventually able to find a key to the Czechoslovak species (https://www.aemnp..._0_331.pdf). The important characteristics are clearly explained here. The individual (newer) group species are not mentioned here, and I did not check for missing species, but it gives a good beginner direction.

As a first try, I identified the above species as Platypalpus longicornis. Very uncertain, of course.

I also used the following site for references of Platypalpus: https://www.spess...alpus.html

Hi
If a key for species from Fennoscandia and Denmark will do then you can use this key

https://dokumen.pub/the-tachydromiinae-dipt-empididae-of-fennoscandia-and-denmark-1-1-1nbsped-8787491044.html

Thank you very much, I think this will come in handy.

... What a mess, let me create a separate topic to actually request an ID of the fly. Thank you for letting me know!

I can no longer send private messages (and maybe not receive?), even though my inbox and outbox are not yet full. I write, click "send" and they disappear and never show up in the outbox.
