The photo was made near Barcelona, Catalonia (NE Spain), on 07.09.2024.
Perhaps Eriothrix rufomaculatus?

Thanks!

AFAIK, Eriothrix is masculine, so it should be rufomaculatus. You can check in Systema Dipterorum too.

Feminine adjectives dominate masculine in combination with Eriothrix in the world checklist. There is an exception. The name Tachina argyreata Meigen, 1824 was changed to Eriothrix argyreatus. In the other direction, the name Eriothrix furvus Kolomiets, 1967 was changed to Eriothrix furva.

Presumably the roots are ἔριον + θρῐ́ξ with the latter feminine. Meigen did not explain the etymology. He did describe the body as "dichtborstig".

Indeed if that is the etymology the name Eriothrix is feminine. Somewhere I got the information that the latin substantive Eriothrix was masculine and since in the Nomenclator query of Systema Dipterorum the valid name for this species is Eriothrix rufomaculatus I didn't check further. Thanks to both.
Best regards,
Carlo
