Oryctes : France : Villeneuve-d'Ascq : 59650 : 31/08/2024
Altitude : 23 m - Taille : 2-3 mm (estimation)
Réf. : 348236

Hello,
It was yesterday, August 31st, in Villeneuve d'Ascq (North of France) : this little insect came to land in front of me on a bramble leaf at the edge of the lake.
I am not at all sure that there is a link between the insect and this plant, it seems to me that it landed there by chance.
In the Cecidomyiidae family I don't see what genus it could belong to. Would it be possible to know its genus ?
Thanks for your help.
Dominique

It may belong to tribe Asphondyliini, with two large and a few small genera in Europe.

Both sexes of Asphondyliini have 12 long cylindrical flagellomeres and females have a long sternite 7.

Thank you, John, for your answer and the details about this tribe Asphondyliini.
Best regards,
Dominique
