Dear all, Here are photographs of a Myopites photographed on flowering Inula (= Limbarda) crithmoides, August 14th, 2024. Based on blackish sides on pronotum, dark markings on abdomen, dark wing markings pattern and the plant it was sit on, I assume it is Myopites longirostris, although this taxon seems to be unrecorded in Mediterranean France (perhaps because nobody look for them?). Yes, Myopites longirostris Lw. "Myopites eximia Seguy" is not a valid name, under synonymization with the first name right now. Identification is difficult, needing pleural pattern and female ovipositor microscopy. Myopites longirostris in the Mediterranean part has an early spring generation ("bonifaciae"), with darkened femora, narrow brown crossbands, often widely brown scutellum, abdominal tergites, and possibly a different additional host plant. I'd appreciate your observations in April-May there and 96% alcohol-preserved specimens for DNA from that season. Thank you in advance. Many thanks for your very detailed reply. Yes, I will look for them next spring and attempt to collect some. 96° Alcohol is difficult to find these days, isn't 70° not sufficient? |

The specimens must be dehydrated, so 96° alcohol is preferable, but if kept in a freezer, it is fine. Thank you in advance. I am at he Naturhistorisches Museum Berlin (the address is on its site) Val |
