 Peru - Ephydridae w. fungi

The red stuff are indeed fungi, apparently Stigmatomyces. As concerns the fly, missing of orbitals leads me to Leucopis, but I am not sure if the arista is bare or not. Anyway I do not know South American fauna of acalyptrates. Btw, years ago I found a Leucopis with such fungi on Canary Islands. The fungi seem to be undescribed. If you keep the creature from the picture, please let me know. |

Many thanks Jan! I wondered about Chamaemyiidae but was unable to find images of anything quite like it. Great to know the fungi too. I am afraid I did not catch this one. Hmm Another dipterist who specialises in Lauxanioidea said the following on iNaturalist : "Definitely not a chamaemyiid - maybe Ephydridae?" |

The bristling of the head is typical of Ephydroidea and not of Lauxanoidea. |

On iNaturalist Niels-Jan Dek thought Ephydridae most likely : "It looks superficially like Nostima or Philygria and also has a pectinate arista, but these genera have (pre)sutural dorsocentrals and this fly hasn't" |
