This was also photographed in Oporto today (2008/02/13). I think this belongs to the genus Syrphus, but what species?

Does it have hairy eyes? If so, it's Syrphus torvus (not officially known for Pt yet). Please exchange info with me, you have my email! Thanks!

Eyes don't lok lile they are hairy, that is why I did not reply: ribesii or vitripennis, but they 'solid appearance' makes me suspect the former.

Difficult to see, it's slightly unsharp there... hairs in males can be very short.

I am not convinced, especially on pic one... or what is it I see? Please, go collect Syrphids dear Rui! It's such a nice hobby Pfft
