Chloropidae > Oscinellinae > Dasyopa????
female, body 1.5mm wing 1.3mm, collected from late-season Eupatorium flowers (at least I think that’s what it was). Semi-urban area of Maryland, north of Washington DC

I’d appreciate some help with this one. The closest I can come to an ID is Dasyopa triangulata based on what I can find in the Manual of Nearctic Diptera, Becker 2012 (https://www.biodi...3/mode/1up), Malloch 1918 (https://archive.o...tor-169733), and Sabrosky 1980 (https://www.biodi...item/54962). It appears to mostly fit Becker’s original description (as Siphonella) and BOLD’s images of that species (https://v3.boldsy...xid=458308) but it lacks the Malloch’s description as "mesopleurae [as] hairy on the upper posterior portion” in his original paper on this genus.

I’ve included some addition info/speculation on my BugGuide post (https://bugguide....ew/2309483).

Thanks in advance

Steve

there's an apical spur on the middle leg but not the hind legs
I don't see a tibial organ on the hind legs, consistent with Malloch's description of the genus ("...the hind tibiae without the sensory area"...)

Conioscinella spec. (probably undescribed), Oscinellinae, Chloropidae, female. Typical features: densly haired eyes, short ocellar triangle covered with pubescence (pollen), proboscis normal (labellum short), hind tibia without spur, 1 +2 notopleural setae. Confirmed by George Foster, Columbia, Maryland.

Thanks! George Foster also commented on the BugGuide post. I see where I went wrong in MND couplet 43 and skipped over Conioscinella and went to Dasyopa in couplet 44
