Image taken last week in the Manteling van Walcheren, Zeeland, Netherlands. The habitat consists mainly of sand dunes near the sea. Thanks in advance for any help with the identification. Regards, Pit

Hi,

This is for sure Philonicus albiceps. A very common species in sand dunes of the Netherlands.

Best, Jonne

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol
